We've heard of an unlikely award winner but this is ridiculous: fluffertraX, the online porn music broadcaster, has won a Mikey - a 2004 Best of Live 365 Award - for "Most Unlikely To Hear on AM/FM Radio," as voted by listeners to Live 365.com.
Creator John Dial, also known as DJ Vanya, said fluffertraX was elated to receive the award. "The fact that it comes directly from our listeners makes it that much more special and honorable," he said.
"Site traffic has increased more than 1,000 percent this past year, in part because of our association with Live 365.com," Dial continued. "This underappreciated genre of music is really turning people on now, and we're doing the best we can to spread the love."
fluffertraX - whose slogan, bow-chica-wow-wow, mimics a guitar lick said to be typical of adult film soundtracks - began by airing existing soundtracks from adult films and videos but soon enough graduated to receiving music from composers and performers worldwide that had not yet made it to adult films when it was produced.
"That keeps the show evolving," said Dial, who also works as DJ Vanya for dance club appearances. "The porn music genre is continually shifting. By receiving music directly from today's newest composers, like Klondyke and Ice-T, we're even one step ahead of the adult film industry, because you can hear new porn music first."
Mikey award voters cast their votes online, and the awards ceremony was held in San Francisco May 1.
