Laurent Sky is trying to make porn with a vision. You will not find Sky remaking Hollywood movies; you won't find him shooting in the same mansions that you've seen in at least five other movies. What you will find Sky doing is making adult entertainment that is definately, perhaps even defiantly, about more than just sex.

"The sex is not enough for a simple reason. I believe the viewer wants to see more – especially right now when the market is extremely saturated. I believe there are people who want to see things that are not out there," Sky told AVN.com.
The first two videos Sky ever directed, the first installments of Ninn Worx's Fetish series, received Editor's Choices from AVN. The verdict isn't in yet on the third installment, but director Laurent Sky feels that it his best – because this is absolutely not your average porn movie. And Sky thanks Ninn Worx for giving him the liberty to create his vision.
"I don't have the pressure of having to turn something out in just four days. I have the freedom to do what I want. Michael [Ninn] never censors me," Sky said. "When you look at the final product, it looks different than anything else. We're not doing it for the money; we're doing it for the prestige."
That's why he's allowed the liberty to create his vision. Given the time it takes to create a new installment of Fetish (an average of two months), it's certainly not just the money – although so far, audiences have been receptive to Sky's vision. Fetish isn't just a critical hit; the sales are definitely respectable, if not enviable.
And Sky feels that the sales will really come when word of what they are doing goes further than the adult entertainment world. As Sky points out, 10,000 units is nothing in the mainstream world. And the feedback he's been receiving on the Internet from people who have bought his first two titles indicates that there are people out there who understand what he is doing.
"We think the market is totally open. We think there are intelligent people watching porno that want something more than just jerk-off material," Sky said. "But we don't fool the customer, it's not just an artsy product – when it comes time to fuck it's really hardcore. It's extremely hard.
"My limit personally is that I don't want to degrade a woman in a movie. That's the only limit."
Fetish 3: I Know Your Dreams opens with a game like Battleship, but with nuclear weapons. Ninn Worx exclusive Wanda Curtis is beside the game and holds her middle finger up at the camera. And that's not even the weird stuff.
"It's a political movie. It's very different, probably different than anything you've seen before," Sky said.
Politics and porn are not exactly two topics that seem to go together, unless you're thinking of political battles about the right of porn to exist. Yet for Sky, adult entertainment is the perfect place for political statements.
"Porno is the last resort. Porno is the only place you have the freedom to do anything," Sky said. "When you have guys chewing bananas out of a girl's ass, you can do anything or say anything. Music videos have the freedom, but they rarely take advantage of it."
But Sky certainly does take advantage of it. He takes on the Middle East, the threat of a nuclear holocaust, Masons and more. In an adult video.
"You have to look at it closely to pick up all the details. When you have a Jew and an Arab playing ping-pong together while listening to techno – that's a statement," Sky said
"The statements in the movie are not judging. They are just statements. We are not taking any positions; we're just making statements," Sky added.
The sex is just as different—and makes a statement of it's own. "When people think about fetish, they think about the one thing: the stereotype of latex, BD/SM. But fetishes can be a lot more elaborate than that," Sky said. "Anything can be a fetish, colors, socks, anything. That's how we do it – the fetishes can be anything."
In Fetish 3, Sky's favorite sex scene involved Ninn Worx exclusive Anais and Wanda Curtis. Curtis was a dominant figure, coaching Anais and Hardwood. There was a slight medical aspect to the fetish, with a syringe being used multiple times. Large screens display the action as it takes places behind the actors, creating a surreal performance aspect.
"It's very intense, and it's something totally different. No one has seen that before, and because of that it will strike a deeper chord," Sky said.
And that seems to sum up why Sky has done so well so quickly as a director. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he has over a decade of experience as a photographer, some of that time as a mainstream fashion photographer.
"I know its very hard for people to watch the freaky guy washing some little brain, and try to figure out that it's brainwashing, and why does he keep bouncing it off the gasoline tank," Sky admitted. "I know it's hard, but there's intelligent people out there, and people will be touched by that and appreciate that."
And the fourth edition of Fetish could be even further left of center for porn. It's about art.
