FBI Agent Sentenced for Child Porn

A former FBI agent whose career included helping arrest outlaw Claude Dallas and the siege against the racist group The Order is going to prison for 12 months himself—for child porn possession.

William Buie pleaded guilty in March and was sentenced June 13, having until July 20 to turn himself in to begin his sentence, according to published reports.

Buie reportedly told authorities he learned how to get to child porn websites while he attended a seminar aimed at preventing child exploitation. The Justice Department said in a statement that up to 150 child porn images were found on Buie's home computer but none on his work computers.

At the time of his arrest, Buie had spent six years as a criminal investigator for the Idaho attorney general's office, the reports said.

The case is a bitter climax for a man whose FBI career peaks included a role in helping arrest Dallas, who had spent a year running from authorities after killing a pair of Idaho Fish and Game agents. Buie also took part in the 1984 siege against The Order's leader Robert Mathews, on Whidbey Island, Washington, a siege ending in Mathews's death following an 18-month spree of armed robberies and killings.

The reports said that federal judge Edward Lodge sentenced Buie down from a reportedly standard range of 27 to 33 months, after Buie's attorney Mark Manweiler argued his effort to find sex addiction treatment plus his clean work record justified a break, according to published reports.

Manweiler also said Buie could be "unusually susceptible" to abuse in federal prison.
