Last year, Evil Angel took home the AVN trophy for Best Vignette Release with the debut Buttman Comics movie Tales from the Crack. This year, the company is roaring back into that realm once again with the follow-up Vault of Whores, which also happens to be the first Evil title shot in high definition video.
As Tricia Devereaux, co-director of Vault with David Lord, explained to AVN.com, “We wanted to do high-def because, first of all, David and I really like widescreen. It was a cool movie to do it with, because it kind of can have a different look than everything else that we do. We actually did a 24-frame [per second] look on it, so it's still crisper than doing a 24-frame look with normal DV, but it's not so crisp that it's disarming. So for me, it was a very happy medium.
“In fact, it was perfect,” Devereaux continued, “because John [Stagliano, owner of Evil Angel] is considering shooting whatever his next big feature will be on full high-def. So it was a good thing for us to play with it.”
Written by David Crawford, Vault stars Taryn Thomas as a college cheerleader who's into dirty comic books. Through her eyes, it takes the audience along into three tawdry tales populated by Kaylynn, Naudia Nyce, Katja Kassin, Dillan Lauren, Vicky Vette, Sammie Rhodes, Hillary Scott, Vanessa Lane, Sunny Lane, Victoria Sin, Courtney Simpson, Tommy Gunn, Mr. Pete, Scott Lyons, James Deen, Talon, Christian and Scott Nails.
Among the various sexual scenarios captured this time out, Devereaux tells of a wild orgy between six cheerleaders: “We have a six-girl scene in a shower with tons of baby oil. David calls it our ode to Bruce Seven. Lots of d.p.s with toys, lots of fingers, lots of spitting and pussies and good, rough sex with girls.”
Of course, this being Evil's first high-def project, only the best were given the reigns of the cameras, including Jack Remy, Jonni Darkko and Stagliano himself.
“On four of the scenes, it was Jack Remy and Jonni Darkko shooting camera,” Devereaux said. “And then on the six-girl scene day, Jack Remy was not available, and so John Stagliano came on set and shot second camera. So we got Buttman shooting the girl/girl scene with Jonni Darkko. And it shows, too, the scene kind of has a tiny, tiny bit of a different feel to it. You can definitely feel the movement of it exactly how John shoots.”
Vault of Whores is available now on VHS, and will be released as a three-disc set on DVD November 2, with the third disc containing the movie in high-def format.
