ePassporte, Others Step Forward to Help Katrina Efforts

Online adult industry efforts to support the survivors of Hurricane Katrina are kicking into high gear.

Yesterday, processing and payment provider ePassporte announced the creation of the Webmaster Support Fund, which will raise money to be donated to The America Red Cross through the Hurricane 2005 Relief Fund. The company itself kick-started the effort by donating $5,000. Webmasters can follow by donating via the ePassporte site. No transfer fee or costs will be charged by ePassporte, and transfers should be sent to user name “hurricanefund.”

“We are extremely fortunate, as an industry, by and large,” said ePassporte chief executive Chris Mallick. “We all give in our own ways to those things that matter, but this disaster was so close to me, with family, friends, and associates living there and countless memories from shows and experiences in my past. It seems like the right thing to do, to simply put the opportunity out there, start a thread, and watch what happens. Our industry has stepped up, and we should all be proud for doing our part. These are an amazing group of people that have a very real concern and sense of social responsibility.”

Also joining the effort are online adult retailers Mallcom and Mr. S Leather. Mallcom will donate a portion of all proceeds from Labor Day weekend sales to the American Red Cross, and Mallcom will match that donation with a contribution to the Humane Society.

“While the nation is getting ready for Labor Day weekend, we realize many people affected by the hurricane don’t have the luxury of planning that final summer barbecue or family get-together. They need immediate relief, and we’d like to help,” said Mallcom vice president May Aharony. “We’d also like to donate to a cause that’s near and dear to our staff’s hearts. The Humane Society does great work with animals, and we’re going to match our Red Cross donation dollar-for-dollar with a contribution to them, to help animal relief efforts in the region, as well.”

Mr. S will donate 1 percent of all online sales and store sales to the American Red

Cross.
