A forthcoming film featuring former Xena: Princess Warrior star Lucy Lawless and produced by DreamWorks is taking a page from the marketing books of adult Webmasters.
Using a similar design and aesthetic to that seen on thousands of adult Websites, Vandersexxx.com warns users that entry to the site is restricted to those eighteen and older and asks surfers to declare "I am an adult and wish to view visual images, verbal descriptions and audio sounds of Club Vandersexxx."
The Website refers to a fictional club in Amsterdam hosted by Madam Van Der Sexxx, a character played by Lawless. Matt Damon makes a cameo appearance in the movie. Links on the site include references to "Toys", "Domination/Bondage" and "Hardcore" along with a graphic that says "All Major Credit Cards Accepted." Footage from the film, some of it featuring partial nudity, is also available to surfers.
DreamWorks, the producers of Old School and Road Trip, recently launched the Website as part of promotion for Eurotrip, a new comedy scheduled for release on February 20th. The film was written by the writing team behind last year's $100 million grossing The Cat In The Hat.
A "whois" domain search on Vandersexxx.com reveals the site is registered to Buzztone.com Inc., a marketing firm that bills itself as an "accomplished collective from the advertising, entertainment, media, and technology worlds." Buzztone has created marketing campaigns for Sprite, Target, Electronic Arts and Warner Brothers.
