DragonCon to Feature Adult Industry Speakers

Adult industry observer and EyeOnAdult.com editor/writer Scott McGowan will make a two-night appearance during Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, Ga., by acting as moderator for two adult industry discussion panels at the mainstream multimedia and popular arts convention, DragonCon.

DragonCon is an event that draws more than 30,000 attendees per year and is best known for its focus on science fiction/fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, and music. It also features the technology-driven Electronic Frontiers Forums track of programming.

In addition to McGowan, AVN Award-winning director and industry blogger Mike South; Jim “GonZo” McAnally, adult webmaster and owner of the adult industry think tank Oprano.com; and Penthouse Pet Melissa Wolf will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, in Atlanta’s Marriot Marquis Hotel for a panel titled Walking the Line: Moral, Ethical, and Legal Concerns in Online Adult Entertainment.

“I’m very, very excited about this” says McGowan. “It’s a rare opportunity to be able to bring industry beginners and nonprofessionals into these discussions. Unfortunately, this is a group of people that are largely ignored by the adult entertainment’s establishment, and it’s high time that changed.”

McGowan added that the seminar’s primary focus is education, and those looking for “titillation” will be disappointed. “Our goal is for people to leave these discussions with a better understanding of how to create, market, buy, and sell erotica safely, ethically, and legally.” he says.

“While adult industry panels may seem out of place at a mainstream science-fiction convention, both science fiction and the adult industry have faced their share of problems under the specter of censorship. One only has to look at the history of comic-book censorship and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund to understand that these issues are not new,” says Scott Jones, director of Dragon*Con’s Electronic Frontiers Forum entertainment-themed panels. “We examine censorship issues in the adult industry knowing full well that if we fail to understand the issues and speak up, our newly beloved science-fiction fan website may be next on the censor’s list.”

McGowan, South, and McAnally will return the following evening, Saturday, Sept. 2, at 10 p.m. to continue the discussion in the panel Adult Entertainment and Technology: A Lusty Liaison.

Both panels are being sponsored by adult video-on-demand mega-site MovieMonster.com and the 18-plus social networking website xPeeps.com, both owned and operated by Adult Entertainment Broadcast Network Inc.
