DivX Inc., the digital entertainment company that created the popular DivX media format, has expanded internationally to help drive opportunities in two of the fastest growing markets for DivX Certified consumer electronics: Latin America and Canada.
DivX is a digital media format that enables consumers to create, share and play back high-quality video content across a range of devices and platforms. The company’s core offering is the patent-pending DivX video codec, which offers DVD-quality at 10 times greater compression than MPEG-2 files, enabling full-length films to fit on a CD and be delivered over broadband connections.
More than 50 million DivX-Certified devices are expected to ship worldwide by the end of 2005. The company recently announced a number of consumer electronics partnerships in Brazil and Latin America and has seen consistent demand in the Canadian market, with LG Canada recently announcing an entire line of DivX-Certified devices for 2005.
DivX has a strong international presence with offices throughout Asia and Western Europe and plans to focus on emerging retail markets in 2006. As part of the new expansion, Roberto Silva joins the company as sales manager for Latin America, and Susan Fraser will assume the same role for DivX in Canada. Silva and Fraser will join the DivX sales team, led by Hyder Rabbani, senior vice president for worldwide sales.
“As the global DivX phenomenon grows at a rapid pace, we have seen exploding demand for DivX-Certified devices, software and content throughout the world and particularly among consumers and retailers in Canada and Brazil,” says Rabbani. “Roberto and Susan bring valuable expertise in working with the ecosystem of manufacturers, retailers and consumers in their respective regions, and we’re extremely pleased to welcome them to the growing international DivX sales team.”
