Version 6 of DivX, with new and more advanced interactive home entertainment creation tools, was released June 15.
The key new feature is DivX Media Format, a suite of tools letting users build a more complete home entertainment experience as they build media files for playback on all DivX-certified products from DVD players to portable media players.
The suite includes XSUB subtitling that allows for video file creation with multiple-language subtitle sets; interactive video menus; chapter pointing, and lets users jump to individual scenes directly in their own homemade video. It also includes alternate audio tracking and XTAG video tagging lets users include descriptive information, among other new features.
"DivX 6 offers a transformative digital media experience for consumers, content providers, consumer electronics manufacturers, and multimedia software companies—with better performance, visual quality, and wider interoperability than any other video technology on the market," said DivX founder and chief executive Jordan Greenhall, announcing the new version. "Most importantly, users will be able to create video files with new DivX features that are interoperable with millions of DivX Certified DVD players and other devices."
DivX Version 6 also includes a new DivX Converter, a one-step video application letting a user make high-quality DivX files from multiple sources.
