Adult performer Dick Delaware, known in the fight game by his civilian name, Aaron Brink, will step back into the cage on Saturday night at a private mansion in Temecula, Calif.
Brink will be fighting Sebastian Rodriguez, the same man whom he helped get started in the sport six years ago. The fight will be for VIP Entertainment’s heavyweight title belt. Brink remembers meeting and befriending Rodriguez at the World’s Gym in Temecula in 1999.
“He knew who I was and that I was a fighter, and he said ‘I’d like you to train me, will you teach me?’ And I ended up training this kid and then I ended up losing contact with him,” Brink told AVN.com.
The 31-year-old part-time fighter/part-time porn star said that at first he was taken aback by the offer to fight his old friend.
“At first, I had to think about the venue, and where it was going to be at. I know the kid’s mom and dad. I met him when he was 20 years old. Now he’s grown into a man. I was worried more about his mom or family being there. I thought it would have an effect on how I would beat him. But this will be at a mansion. It will be a more mature audience, where Fight Club meets the nightclub,” Brink said.
He added that he has fought at similar private venues in the past.
“I’m doing it because it still counts as a win,” he said.
The 6-foot-3 Brink plans to fight at about 235 pounds, while his opponent, who is 6-2, weighs 225. Rodriguez enters the contest on an eight-fight winning streak and has a 9-2 professional record overall. Brink (25 wins, 18 losses, 1 draw), meanwhile, has lost four consecutive mixed-martial arts fights, the most recent at a King of the Cage show on April 2 in Fresno, Calif. His last win came in September of 2005 in downtown Los Angeles.
“I am taking serious precautions. I’ve been known not to train as hard for fights,” Brink admitted. “Right now I’m coming off a losing streak, so I cannot afford to lose. Right now, I want to show I am back. Look for me to come back and fight again in August, in Anaheim. This is just going to be a stepping stone, and it’s for a belt.”
Brink withdrew from a scheduled fight against Homer Moore at Rage in the Cage in Glendale, Ariz., this weekend to take this fight. Brink and Moore have been scheduled to fight several times before, but Moore has always pulled out.
“He’s turned me down four times,” Brink said of Moore. “Now I get to do it to him. Plus, these guys offered me more money.”
Brink said that Rodriguez was a pro wrestler when he first met him.
“He was competing in minor league pro wrestling events,” he recalled. “I haven’t seen him in five years, but I hear he progressed really fast. He’s a natural, very athletic and fighting was in his blood. It is kind of weird fighting a guy like this. There’s not going to be any surprises. I do know one thing: he’s going to come to fight.”
Brink continued, “It’s kind of hard fighting a friend. I normally would be really nervous, but this helps me to maybe be relaxed for it. I have no problems with him. He might have a little chip on his shoulder because I heard his dad was sick, but I’m not taking this fight personal. When I used to train I was able to control him, so I expect to able to control him again. With that said, I wish the best for his dad, and I hope he’s doing OK.”
Brink, who will perform in a scene on Wednesday for Cherry Boxxx, suggested that Rodiguez agreed to fight him because of his recent losses.
“I think it’s a fight where he knows what he’s getting into too, so there’s not going to be a big surprise. So we have to get this done and get past this and figure out who is going to be the victor,” Brink said.
The co-main event will feature King of the Cage veteran Emmanuel Newton vs. Don Rocco for the light heavyweight title.
The address for the fight is 41775 Elm Street, Murrieta, Calif., 92562. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the fights start at 5.
For tickets, call the promoter Danny at 949.244.4487. The co-promoter is Dylan Hall, son of UFC veteran Mark Hall. Female adult performers who bring a current AIM test and ID will be admitted free.
