Devil’s Distribution, a newly formed division of Devil’s Films/ IVC, will take over distribution of Elegant Angel titles by the end of the year. Terms of the arrangement were not disclosed.
“The deal is worth a lot. How it's worth a lot and how it translates to worth between the two of us doesn’t need to be known – but the worth is substantial,” Elegant Angel owner Patrick Collins told AVN.com
While Devil's Distribution will not include IVC, the company that distributes the works of T.T. Boy, John Dough, and Woodburn Productions, as well as Devil's Films, the companies will serve under the same management, which both Collins and Devil's Distribution head Mike Rubenstein expect will benefit distributors as much as themselves.
"The deal offers distributors more convenience and consistency. We don’t do side deals and we support our distributors on every title we release,” Rubenstein said.
"And they no longer have to deal with me," Collins added.
With Elegant Angel's catalog of 650 titles, the deal will effectively place over 1,000 titles under Rubenstein's distribution control.
Even more important than the financials, both Collins and Rubenstein feel that their respective companies play to each other's strengths.
"This takes me away from the day-to-day administration that I detest and find difficult,” Collins said. “It allows me to focus 100 percent on where my strengths lie: shooting, working with other directors on their projects, designing box covers – the creative end of the business. It’s very difficult to do that when you are busy administrating for a big company like Elegant Angel."
For is part Rubenstein is looking forward to the benefits provided by teaming up with a company as large as Elegant Angel. "The brand name association certainly benefits us. Their catalog size benefits us - there is strength in numbers. Their product doesn't really compete with anything else we have, so it's a great match that way," he said.
Devil's Distribution hopes to take over selling Elegant Angel product by December 1, but it may take until the end of the year to accomplish the transistion.
"Really, it shouldn't be that difficult. I already release three titles a week, so one more on top of that shouldn't be a big deal," Rubenstein said.
It is not yet known what affect this may have on the Elegant Angel sales staff, but for now it is business as usual.
