Despite some local opposition, strip club operator Déjà Vu is moving forward with plans to open a new club in this Cincinnati suburb.
Brad Shafer, a Michigan attorney representing the company, told the Cincinnati Enquirer last week that the company will open a club on the site of the Bristol’s Show Club, a strip club that closed when its owner was evicted from the property.
Monroe Mayor Robert Routson said he had hoped Bristol’s closure put an end to strip clubs in the area.
“We can’t stop them from coming in, but we can work on new regulations along with the ones we have in place,” he told the newspaper.
Shafer said the new club’s ownership will be a good citizen and follow local laws and regulations.
Déjà Vu operates dozens of strip clubs in 16 states, including three in Ohio and 33 in California, including a number of Larry Flynt Hustler Clubs.
Although proponents say that the new club could open within a few weeks, it’s unclear what its name will be, whether its dancers will be partially or completely nude and whether it will be allowed to serve liquor.
Earlier this month, Déjà Vu lost a U.S. Supreme Court challenge to the township’s rules requiring strip clubs to close by midnight and that it provide information about its employees such as their birthdates and job descriptions.
