Central Michigan University administrators this week were criticizing a new charity calendar featuring its coeds wearing skimpy bikinis.
According to the Grand Rapids Press, administrators said they don’t condone its students posing half clad even it’s for a charitable cause. The calendar, dubbed “The Girls of Central Michigan 2006," benefits victims of Hurricane Katrina which devastated the Gulf Coast in September.
“We don’t feel that this kind of publication serves the university well or the students,” college spokesman Steven Smith told the newspaper.
The calendar went on sale on Jan. 9 at $10 apiece.
Although the students’ participation in the calendar does not violate the school’s conduct policy, administrators said students are advised against participating in sexually provocative publications.
The calendar was the brainchild of Central Michigan student Jeff Globish and three other students. Globish said they merely wanted to help raise funds for hurricane victims, but were shocked by the school administration’s negative reaction.
The models were reportedly paid $100 each for participating.
Meanwhile, Globish said he is already accepting model applications for next year’s calendar.
