CYBERSPACE—Gooning, a “hedonistic masturbation fetish” is now the fastest growing fetish globally and has been named 2026 Fetish of the Year by Clips4Sale, the adult kink and fetish platform.
“Once limited to fairly obscure internet forums, ‘gooning’ exploded in the wake of the pandemic. Since the end of 2023, sales of gooning content have grown 151 percent, and an astounding 49 percent in the past six months alone,” a Clips4Sale spokesperson explained. “Gooning., a sexual practice for multi-hour or multi-day personal pleasure sessions, often involves multiple screens in pursuit of a trance-like ‘goon state.’”
Like previous Fetishes of the Year, Clips4Sale said gooning is “the perfect encapsulation of our current sexual moment.”
“Gooning is the perfect fetish for our sex-and-tech obsessed culture,” said Clips4Sale spokesperson Avery Martin. “It’s an embrace of radical pleasure at a time of reactionary sexual politics. In the midst of moral panics about porn and technology, gooners have reclaimed both to turn the narrative on its head, embracing an almost religious pursuit of pleasure. In the past year, creators have seized on the moment and are creating incredible, and incredibly creative, content to feed this large and voracious audience.
“The growth of gooning has provoked its own reaction in the media, with a spate of anti-gooning articles in the mainstream press and a flood of derogatory and celebratory online memes. But if the culture has frowned, gooning has surged. Global search interest in gooning is more than 40 times what it was just two years ago,” Martin added.
According to year-end data from C4S, gooning is now the fastest growing fetish globally, as well as the single fastest growing fetish in nine countries including the United States, Canada, the Netherlands and Japan.
To celebrate the Fetish of the Year, C4S has released a map of the “Fastest Growing Fetishes” in each country and a map of the “Most Searched Fetishes” in each U.S. state.
