The city Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a hearing on Wednesday on an amendment that could force a local bed and breakfast to stop conducting sex parties.
The hearing, to be held at City Hall, will allow the public to speak on the proposed regulations for the Union Street Bed and Breakfast as well as other adult entertainment businesses, the Times Union reported.
The proposed amendment calls for motels that rent rooms for the short term, to move to industrial areas along Lower Broadway, Erie Boulevard and Maxon Road Extension. The proposal also covers such businesses as those motels that offer closed circuit adult films, escort services, adult theaters, nude modeling studios and other adult enterprises.
The issue comes after residents living near the bed and breakfast complained about the parties there, claiming it serves as a hangout for swinging couples who swap their partners for sex.
But Bob Alexson, who owns the inn, said his business isn’t going anywhere, adding that the parties are private and that he doesn’t charge for them. He insisted that the city doesn’t have the power to regulate his business.
Alexson’s attorney Stephen Coffey said he was prepared to go to court if the city tries to close down the inn.
