City officials say an adult video store that has opened just days ago may be in violation of its zoning law.
Murfreesboro spokesman Chris Shofner said the city’s legal department is investigating whether the 21 Up, Movies and More video store is located too close to facilities that serve children such as a nearby dance studio, WTVF-TV reported.
Shofner said local parents are concerned that the shop is too close to the Dance Works dance studio that caters to children. By law, adult entertainment businesses are required to be at least 1,000 feet away from schools, libraries, parks, homes and other public facilities.
Shofner said the city was unaware that the business had opened until a local television reporter inquired about it.
Although the store owner would not comment, Dance Works owner Brenda Brunelle said she believes the city will close down the store.
The city is expected to rule on the shop’s legality in about a week, Shofner added.
