City Catches Workers on Porn Phone Chats

An undisclosed number of Springfield public school workers have been calling a porn- and sex-chat telephone line on the job, Mayor Charles Ryan revealed this week.

Ryan said a six-week probe found at least 40 city telephones have been used to call the Raven chat line, which he described as "full of pornography of all sizes and shapes." Although the mayor indicated some degree of distaste for the material, he said the larger concern is that the calls were made on the city’s dime during working hours.

Ryan and other city officials told reporters it wasn't yet clear how many workers were involved in the phone chats.

One newspaper report indicated one worker has been placed on administrative leave, and two more will suffer the same fate soon. Ryan was quoted as saying final disciplinary action hasn’t been determined, but federal charges for misusing public funds are possible in the case.
