CineKink Festival Returns

CineKink NYC will return on October 18, featuring a specially selected program of films and videos that explore and celebrate a wide diversity of alternative sexuality.

In addition to screenings, plans for the third annual festival also include a short film competition, presentations, awards and a gala kick-off fundraiser.

Billing itself as "the really alternative film festival," the event will run Oct. 18-23. Presented by CineKink, an organization dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of kink-positive depictions in film and television, topics touched upon will include S/M, leather, fetish and roleplay, swinging, polyamory and non-monogamy, and gender bending. With offerings drawn from all over the world, works presented at CineKink NYC will range from documentary to drama, camp comedy to porn - and everything in between.

"We had a fantastic range of films and video come in this year," says Lisa Vandever, CineKink's co-founder and director. "In an increasingly conservative cultural climate, it's especially invigorating to see the commitment and talent that our filmmakers bring to their works. It's a real honor to showcase them at our festival."

The festivities begin with a kick-off party at 8 p.m. Oct. 18 to be held at Remote Lounge (327 Bowery, NYC), featuring screenings, schmooze and a fundraising auction to benefit both CineKink and a landmark legal challenge against the federal government's Communications Decency Act, "Barbara Nitke v. Alberto Gonzales."

The festival then moves to Anthology Film Archives (32 Second Avenue, NYC), Oct. 19 through Oct. 22, with several different film and video programs scheduled for each day. The event concludes with a gala awards ceremony on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 23.
