The Colt Studio Group announced this week that casting for its two-part XXX-Western, Buckle-Roos, is complete. Dean Phoenix, Marcus Iron, and Zak Spears head the cast of the first-time directorial collaboration between mega-award-winners John Rutherford and Jerry Douglas.
"This has been the longest casting process in my career," said Douglas, who also wrote the screenplay. "John and I have painstakingly interviewed and considered performers for more than twenty-five roles. We have reached complete agreement about the marvelous cast we've assembled. I can already see the characters I wrote come to life. I can't wait to get to the set."
In something of a casting coup, Phoenix, a popular late-'90s performer, comes out of a four-year retirement to work with Rutherford and Douglas. "I had some reservations about returning to the industry," said Phoenix. "But when I was approached for this new feature, I really fell in love with the script. I jumped at the chance to work with John Rutherford and Jerry Douglas. I think my fans will be receptive to my comeback role."
In Buckle-Roos, Phoenix and Iron play ex-rodeo-cowboys who have bought a cattle ranch together, but who still prefer raising hell to settling down. Spears portrays a mysterious Man in Black whose magic belt buckle allows whoever is wearing it to have sex with anyone he desires. According to Douglas, Spears' role is the biggest nonsex role ever written for an adult film: He appears in virtually every scene of this gay adult folk tale.
Spears, a GAYVN Hall of Fame'er with over 50 movies and a 14-year career, stated, "I'm honored to have received this non-sexual role as a new avenue to express myself. John Rutherford and I have a relationship that spans many years. And Jerry Douglas and I have often spoken about working together over the years, so I'm very excited about finally being able to work with both of these very talented people."
Colt exclusives Dave Angelo and Edu Boxer join Phoenix, Iron, and Spears in the cast, as does superstar Jake Andrews who makes his long-awaited return to porn in Buckle-Roos. Also in the more than 25-man cast are Diego de la Hoya, Todd Maxwell, Owen Hawk, Timmy Thomas, Brad Benton, Arpad Miklos, and Andrew Rubio.
"I'm extremely happy with the cast for Buckle-Roos," Rutherford told AVN.com. "I couldn't be happier with the new group of Colt Men we've assembled and mixed in with industry favorites—the perfect blend of past, present, and future." Rutherford, who has helmed many big productions in his long XXX-industry career, considers this one of the biggest. Is he nervous? "Of course. And if I wasn't nervous, then I'd be nervous that I wasn't. I'm always nervous before, during, and after a shoot," Rutherford quipped.
The two-part movie, which boasts ten sex scenes, is slated for a 20-day production schedule on location in Northern California. Colt Studio will release Buckle-Roos under its Buckshot Productions brand in September.
