Mary Carey officially kicked off her campaign for the office of governor of California Tuesday afternoon at the L.A. County Registrar - Recorder in Norwalk.
The starlet conducted a 10-minute press conference outside the Recorder's office with mainstream outlets such as Fox News, KCAL9, ABC News, dailyceleb.com and Globe Photos, among others, in attendance.
"I really want to project the adult industry in a positive way because it’s a billion-dollar industry and we need the money to keep coming into the state to help the unemployed and the poor," Carey said. "We also need a [professional] football team in LA and more pro soccer teams."
Her platform also includes legalizing gay marriages.
"It was a great press conference," she continued. "I already turned in six signatures that I got at the courthouse so I’m on my way. I’m excited. ... I need a little over 165,000 signatures to be on the ballot. If I don't get that I'll still campaign as a write-in candidate."
Carey, who stars in the new Legend Video adult release, Mary Carey for Governor, will continue her campaign tonight when she will be a guest on Alan Colmes' Fox Radio show at 9 p.m. PST. That comes on the heels of her fourth appearance on MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" last Wednesday.
After meeting with the press today, Carey completed her paperwork and picked up 200 voter registration forms. Next week she will campaign at Virgin Megastore in San Francisco, where she will appear from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
"I'll probably go to the courthouse [in San Francisco] during the day," she said. "I'll be collecting signatures everywhere I go now, trying to get people to sign my petition."
Carey ran for governor in 2003 for the first time during the California Recall Election, placing 10th with over 10,000 votes.
“I think I will do better this time since I am 25 now and more mature than last time," she said. "I have also learned a lot more about politics since the last election.”
Her campaign slogan is, “Finally a politician that you want to be screwed by.”
