Bush Nominates Harriet Miers for Supreme Court

President Bush today chose White House counsel Harriet Miers as his nominee to replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.

The 60-year-old Miers has been part of Bush's inner circle for several years. She was the first woman to serve as president of the State Bar of Texas and Dallas Bar Association. She also was a member of the Dallas City Council. She has never been a judge.
