Computer geeks and video game nerds will have one fewer place to see hot, young women after the organizers of the Electronics Entertainment Expo, better known as E3, banned scantily clad models from the show.
Although it had banned the use of so-called “booth babes” in the past, this year the show’s handbook outlines a new set of rules that provides tougher penalties, including a $5,000 fine on the spot to booth operators, Reuters reported.
The show, scheduled for May 10-12 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, is the showcase for the video game industry which uses the gathering to introduce its latest games and hardware each year.
Mary Dolaher, E3’s show director, said in an e-mail that the new rules will be strictly enforced.
“We have taken steps to ensure that exhibitors are familiar with the policy and how it will be enforced,” she wrote.
Under the new rules, exhibitors would receive a verbal warning when a violation occurs, with a $5,000 fine imposed upon a second violation. The models themselves would be required to dress appropriately before they are allowed to return to the floor.
