The British firm Cellestial has launched a new distribution and billing product called BabeCell that allows adult Webmasters to bill and send their adult images to cell phones.
BabeCell says that adult content on cell phones is a lucrative international market forecast to top $1.01 billion at the end of this year, according to research from Juniper Networks, and $2 billion by 2009.
Cellestial’s new BabeCell service allows for visitors to adult Websites to buy and receive their favorite content for storage on their cell phones.
“We’ve identified that there is a need and we spent 12 months putting together a platform that is very simple to use,” BabeCell’s Mike Black told AVN.com in an interview from London.
BabeCell’s system enables end users to click on a small icon embedded in thumbnail galleries, which opens “a shopping mall” displaying the image, price in local currency rates and the user’s purchase tracking.
Using technology called Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), BabeCell says that its program optimizes the Web image for the end user’s cell phone configuration to ensure high quality reproduction.
“Users can go to the normal sites, and go to the icon. It’s a straightforward transaction,” Black said. “The image is uploaded to our platform, and then taken to a billing page, and the end user can basically click to agree to receive that image at that page, and their cell phone bill is billed.”
There is no requirement to produce or source special content for cell phone distribution and the Webmaster does not have to resize or alter the content in any way, meaning all existing Web content libraries can be offered to end users, according to BabeCell.
“There is nothing at all for Webmasters to do. It’s our platform,” Black continued. “The {end users} download that image to their handsets. On the site they can track that process all the way through.
“It’s very straightforward. The reason we’re doing this is in Europe and Asia this market is very large. ... This is a huge market waiting to happen domestically in U.S. We showed this at Internext {in Las Vegas in January}, and we started selling two weeks ago.”
BabeCell technology is being used in at least 12 countries in Europe and is in the process of expanding to Asia and South America.
Bill Black, president of BabeCell, said “BabeCell provides a 50 percent revenue share on all cell phone purchases that pass through its system, enabling U.S. Webmasters and content owners to earn incremental revenues from the same Web content.
“Access to the technology is free, so there are no costs for either the Webmaster or content owner. We are paid by the cell phone network carriers and in turn pay the Webmaster and content owner directly. What’s different is that earnings are made each time an end user purchases an image rather than through subscriptions and this market is proven and growing in Europe and Asia, where many images are sold at $3 each. This is a good opportunity for U.S. Webmasters and content owners to monetize their Web content.”
