AVN.COM BUSINESS PROFILE 200605 - This Boy's Life: Women of Color Mean Big Green for Evasive Angles

TT Boy glowers from behind a pool-sized desk at his Evasive Angles headquarters with the same intensity that made him a legend in over 3,000 sex scenes through almost 17 years.

The producer-director-owner, of Puerto Rican extraction, has never pulled his punches, and he is frank about what turns him on: “I like dark girls — Latin, black — my preference.”

It turns out to be the same preference of a great many porn consumers, especially in the big East Coast marketplace where Evasive racks up substantial sales.

Boy’s personal taste has pretty much become his company image. Its niches and sub-niches concentrate on women of color: blacks, Hispanics, Asians. He uses white girls, of course, but almost always with black men. There’s a large ethnic market out there, and a very big piece of it belongs to him.

Evasive Angles Entertainment is actually two companies, TTB Productions and Evasive Angles, and they’re about to be joined by a third: Bubble Butt Inc. “It’s all about butts,” the AVN Hall of Famer says. “It’s going to be the best butt company around.”

Their combined catalogs number 400 titles and 50 different series. Boy’s very first line, Black Street Hookers, is now at Vol. 76. “I started that in July 1996 and it still sells well,” he says. “It’s my little baby, and I give it love.”

Boy started producing and owning his own product 10 years ago with TTB Productions, distributed by Devils Films and Mike Rubinstein, whom he credits with helping him get started. “He’s a great guy. I have enormous respect for him.”

In 2001 he started a second company, Evasive Angles, distributed by Jake Steed, with series that included Spanish Fly Pussy and Orgy World. In January 2003, Boy split from Steed and began distributing on his own, armed only with a “small little list” of wholesalers.

He remembers it well. “I’d wake up at five in the morning and go to my office, a little teeny metal machine shop-garage that I painted the floors and put a desk in there and a couple shelves. And I started making the calls myself. It wasn’t easy. ‘Hey this is TT from Evasive.’ ‘Who the fuck are you? What? Fuck you, you want too much.’ Slam.

“You take a lot of abuse when you’re not in the game as a salesman,” he recalls, without rancor. “I went to the AVN show without having a booth. And TT Boy, of course, I’m a well-known actor, had a lot of acclaim and a lot of fans, and I’m getting the cold shoulder ’cause I’m wearing an Evasive Angles t-shirt and going around trying to sell my product.

“But I persevered, and I made it happen. For a year I was doing all the sales, and shooting all the movies, and boxing it up and delivering. Getting no respect wasn’t that much fun. But I’m not the kind of guy to turn and run away. I will fight the fight, and thank God, now I’m here.”

He credits his success to staying in shape through physical exercise (wrestling, boxing) and meditation, plus “strong concentration and a photographic memory. My mind is very powerful. It got me through some of the more difficult sex scenes.”

The turning point for Evasive, he feels, came in “the last six, eight months. I’ve been getting more support and a lot more vendors have been calling for the product. Now you don’t have to chase the people. They’re there; they want it; they need it. I feel like I’ve turned the corner.”

In November 2005, Boy moved the company into sprawling, gated quarters on a busy street in Chatsworth. “It’s like a fortress,” he smiles. “I like it that way.”

On a tour of the 24,000 square-foot facilities, he points proudly to the mahogany paneling and cut-glass windows. Poster-size photographs of New York City, where his family originated, adorn the walls. It is handsomely designed, tasteful, spotless — class all the way.

Upstairs is a bedroom set frequently used for sex scenes (any Evasive fan would recognize it instantly). Nearby sit several rows of classroom desks, props for a teacher series that’s getting underway.

In the warehouse, the DVDs are stacked neatly on shelves that line a space the size of a public park. Near the center, a battered punching bag hangs from the two-story ceiling. In one corner sits the massive ’64 Chevy Impala used in the series Big Butt Bounce Wit’ Phat Ass Hydraulics.

The company recently went to in-house editing. Art Attack does the artwork. “They do great work for me, and I appreciate it,” Boy says. “The authoring is by Advanced Media. They’re high quality. Our DVDs, if you look at them, have probably the best menus and graphics out there.”

Evasive’s sales manager is Ed Smith. “We hired him in 2004, and he’s helped the company greatly with his great attitude and people skills. I have about seven full-time employees. I keep a tight ship. No room for high overhead.”

Boy’s main director and right-hand man is Mark Anthony, who’s been working with him since Black Street Hookers 11 in 1997. “Mark is an earnest, good, strong guy, and I’m happy to have him here as part of the company. He has his own MVP Entertainment that we distribute for him.

“And then we have a great cinematographer here, Jacob Jewel. He’s an up and coming superstar in the directing world.”

The man who could do four sex scenes a day, no sweat, has drastically reduced his on-camera work to “once a week, maybe twice,” and he doesn’t do that much shooting anymore, either. He’s too busy “making things happen,” he says. “I still watch all the production. My hands are on all the production.”

Evasive and TTB combined put out 10 to 12 titles a month, all new releases. “We haven’t done a compilation for two years. Best of Black Street Hookers we did, and Best of Asian Street Hookers. That’s not much when you have 400 titles.”

Boy’s series seem to multiply automatically. For example, there are now three different Orgy World lines: Orgy World: The Next Level, primarily white girls; Orgy World: Brown and Round, all black girls; and Oriental Orgy World, all Asian girls. Then there are three more orgy lines: Big Bubble Butt Brazilian Orgy, Big Wet Ass Orgy and Big Black Wet Ass Orgy.

“I own the orgy market,” he says, with no exaggeration. “I have like 35 orgy movies, with two scenes. Some of the earlier ones have three scenes. Orgies, you don’t see them very much, primarily because they get boring the way they’re shot. But I figured out a way to shoot ’em and make ’em more exciting.” Orgy World 7 won AVN’s Best Group Sex Scene Award in 2005.

Butt series are another specialty.

“We have Big Phat Apple-Bottom Booty’s, Big Butt Road Trip, we got Big Butt Bounce Wit’ Phat Ass Hydraulics. Then we have Big White Wet Butts, Big Black Wet Butts, Big Latin Wet Butts, Big Butt Smashdown. Wanna go down the list?

“We have Bubble Butt Cheerleaders, Deep Throatin’ Black Freaks, Big Black Booty POV, Little Black Girl POV, Big Black Dicks Little Asian Chicks. Spanish Fly Pussy, we’re working on Vol. 18.”

As with most of the industry, the emphasis on youth, but Boy also has a couple of MILF lines, Desperate Mothers & Wives (he was the first to do a takeoff on the hit TV series) and Horny Black Mothers, with that teacher series waiting in the wings.

“It’s hit and miss with some,” he concedes. “But we have a pretty good record right now.”

So much product requires a constant stream of females, some of whom, he says, come from independent agents. But he singles out for special praise Jim South at World Modeling. “He has sent me a lot of girls over the years. He’s the best agent I know. And Direct Models is a good agent, too.”

His work owes much of its success to the freshness of the girls, beginning with his first line, Black Street Hookers. “I rarely use a girl twice,” he says. “It used to be a big challenge because not that many pretty black girls were working. It was more like a hunt. Now there’s a lot of girls coming through.”

Latin talent presented similar problems. “Originally I had to go to Colombia because America had one or two Latin girls come around in a year. There are more Latin girls now, but still not enough to make a series all the time. So I’ve been all through South America.” His crews make regular trips to Brazil where they shoot scenes to be added to the Latin series.

“We’re so busy,” Boy declares. “I need more directors, more cameramen. We want qualified new talent to come aboard.”

Busy, of course, comes when a company makes it to the top tier of the market, which is what Evasive Angles has done.

“People know the name brand now. They want it; they need it; they have to have it. It’s like, if you watch porno, we have something for you and you’re gonna love it.”
