Australian Strippers Win Right to Meal Breaks

Australia’s Industrial Relations Board has approved new rules for members of the strippers union, the Striptease Artists of Australia, giving them the right to have meal breaks and paid holidays, according to The Australian newspaper.

“The majority of workers in the industry are women,” said union spokeswoman Mystical Melody.

“So it’s probably a really great thing for them to be able to feel confident of having a job after they’ve had their babies.”

The board’s actions mean union strippers will have the right receive overtime pay, meal breaks, rest periods and maternity leave. The board, however, stopped short of outlining pay rates for the work.

Its unclear how many strippers would be affected by the new deal. The union would not say how many members it has.
