An Australian judge rejected this week a request to delay a trial by the lawyers of a chain of adult stores accused of pirating adult DVDs and videos.
A judge in the Federal Magistrates court in Sydney, Australia dismissed a request by Venus Adult Shops Pty. Ltd. to delay trial for a case in which it’s accused of pirating DVDs and videos by Zero Tolerance, Vivid Entertainment, Wicked Pictures, Colossal, Acid Rain, Falcon and Red Light District.
Australia’s Adult Industry Copyright Organisation sued Venus on behalf of its member studios, said Graeme Dunne, its executive officer.
The company had sought to delay proceedings until the outcome of its appeal in a similar case in which a judge ruled the company had infringed on copyrights of several Private Media Group films and videos.
In another case, the organization is preparing for a preliminary hearing in a another piracy case involving Digital Sinema Australia Pty. Ltd and its owner, Jim Karakikes, set to take place from Nov. 21 to 24.
Graeme said many of the studios involved in the Venus action also claim their DVDs were pirated by Digital Sinema and Karakikes.
