ASACP Leader To Speak At FSC Meet

Looking to enhance adult entertainment's awareness of themselves and their mission, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection's executive director, Joan Irvine, will speak at the next Free Speech Coalition general meeting March 17.

“I realized that many people in the industry are still unaware of the ASACP mission, its child pornography reporting hotline, its Approved Member program, and its expanded mission 'Protecting Your Business By Protecting Children'," Irvine said. "Therefore, one of the 2005 goals is to be a stronger presence in the industry."

Irvine said FSC executive director Michelle Freridge—herself a member of the ASACP Advisory Council—agreed, and invited Irvine to speak to the general meeting.

ASACP changed its name from Adult Sites Against Child Pornography earlier this month, in large part because the "child pornography" part of the original name was feared to have confused or put off people who might otherwise have lauded its goals, not to mention the original name triggering certain Internet filters.

Irvine also said when she announced the name change that much of the discomfort with the original name mentioning child porn outright came from adult Internet sites.

The FSC general meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. PST March 17 at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, California.
