ASACP’s Joan Irvine to Speak at GAYVN Summit

Executive Director of the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection Joan Irvine will speak at the GAYVN Summit in San Francisco on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The session, Protecting Children, Protecting Yourself, discusses how "anti-gay groups claim that gay people are 'after' their children," Irvine said. "Well, some of ASACP's major sponsors are gay companies who not only stand by our child protection mission, but also contribute substantially to our ability to carry it out.

"I'm honored to participate at the GAYVN Summit, and I'm glad ASACP can continue working with so many responsible companies, both gay and straight," Irvine added.

The session will feature an update on bills now pending in Congress, which could make labeling mandatory for adult entertainment websites. These include the Protecting Children in the 21st Century Act and the Internet Safety Act of 2007. Irvine also will report on ASACP's new RTA website label, which launched in November.

The discussion is intended to increase awareness of the labeling issue and to help adult companies understand the seriousness of the situation and their options. "That's a win-win situation. We hope a lot of companies will step up now, just as so many already support ASACP's efforts to fight child pornography," Irvine said. "The adult industry has an opportunity here to help protect kids online and also head off possible new regulations."

The GAYVN Summit is a new strategic conference with a specific focus on business and technology. Gay sites have been some of ASACP's strongest and most loyal supporters, including top gay companies like Colt, Falcon, Badpuppy, Naked Sword, and JRL Charts Online—which are all ASACP sponsors.
