Looking to grab a share of the adult Internet audience with what it calls two often overlooked elements – namely, style and humor – Wankorama.com features gay and straight men alike, and says it's building slowly toward what it calls the new frontier in adult entertainment.
"We set out to really raise the bar and define a genre of porn that puts more stock in presentation than what we're all used to seeing," co-founder/president Chris Panagakis said this week. "We basically looked at other streaming sites and said, 'This could be better. This should be better.' Now we're on the warpath to make it happen."
They use high-quality solo amateur videos, retro stylings, and even what they call off-the-cuff copy on their pages, looking to bring in both the gay and the straight audience looking for titillating entertainment with a different approach.
Even their marketing is going enough against the typical adult entertainment grain – they're building what they call a guerilla campaign in which they don't feature their models. The idea, Panagakis said, is to get prospective viewers and members thinking they're not going to see a too-typical adult membership site.
"The message we're trying to get out there isn't that we've got guys wanking," Panagakis said. "Anyone who visits the site is going to figure that out pretty fast. What we're trying to do is get people to expect more from their porn than just a cumshot. We're really bent on giving people high quality videos, but we're even more bent on making sure they have fun and enjoy themselves."
Hence the "amenities," such as games and other distractions, an ongoing soap opera to premiere later this month, and a soon-to-be-released, stand-alone adult toy, code-named iWank.
"iWank promises to be the coolest thing on the site once we release it," Panagakis said. "Basically, it'll combine elements of an instructional guide with videos and photos that gets updated dynamically when you log in to the site. It's fun, it's informative, and chances are you'll get off on it."
And, while they plan to spice up the videos over the next few months, Panagakis said they plan to stay true to their name for now.
"We're already shooting a few circle jerks and duo sessions, but we don't really know where we'll go from there," he said. "Right now, we just want to change the way people look at porn, one wank at a time."
