The AIM Health Care Foundation has announced it now has the HPV Vaccine "Gardisil" available for women in the industry.
It is suggested that the vaccine be used for women who are sexually active and at risk for HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), which is also known as genital warts.
AIM says that typically it removes them in the clinic by freezing them off with liquid
nitrogen, but there are also other non-invasive methods for wart removal, such as Aldera Cream but that method takes weeks before a result can be seen.
According to AIM, there are several types of HPV but the two types that cause cervical cancer now can be prevented with Gardasil. The new vaccine has been on the market for several weeks and AIM is one of the first clinics in the country to be using it.
Dr. Sharon Mitchell, Ph.D., executive director of AIM, said that "at first the pharmaceutical company recommended that the vaccine be given to women under the age of 27, but after a lengthy visit with our pharmaceutical representative we determined that every woman regardless of age, can benefit from this vaccine."
"At AIM we recommend that all female talent get a pap smear (the most effective way of detecting HPV and cancer) every six months, and new talent get a pap upon entering," she said. "Now with this new breakthrough technology we can vaccinate all women at risk, without a pap smear.
"It is no secret that HPV is prevalent in the industry, and we have high hopes that all new and working female talent get vaccinated as soon as possible to eliminate the presence of HPV in the industry."
The cost is $150 for each vaccine and it takes three vaccines over six months to be effective, AIM indicated.
"It is our observation that $450 is a small price to pay to prevent cervical cancer, which can be fatal," Mitchell said. "AIM still recommends getting a pap smear every six months, but now we can offer peace of mind against HPV if all new and working female talent takes advantage of this revolutionary opportunity. Sorry guys, this vaccination is only for women at this time. See you soon, stay happy and healthy."
