After Long Delay, Vamptrix Volume II Finally Avoids the Light of Day

The long-awaited second installment of Vamptrix, the X-rated comic book series that casts adult performer Taylor Wane as a vampiric anti-heroine, will debut at the San Diego Comic Convention later this month. Vamptrix is published by Wane’s own Taylor Wane Comics, a division of Taylor Wane Productions.

The debut issue of Vamptrix was released in August of 2003, and consumer interest exceeded expectations. “The comic thing to me was a totally new experience. I knew I always wanted to be a vampire super hero. Vampires are very erotic,” Wane told AVN.com, “When I created the first volume I was taking a chance – not really knowing if it would sell or not. I was really surprised to see how well it did and based on the success of the first release, I realized Vamptrix had to evolve from its first edition to the look of a ‘Classic Comic’.”

The X-rated comic was slated for a quarterly release schedule, but production was put on hold as Wane revamped the comic’s design and brought on additional staff in anticipation of eventually ramping up the production schedule to a monthly.

“The second issue took longer than we anticipated because it took more time and energy to create it's new look,” Wane told AVN.com, noting that she doesn’t expect a similar delay for the third issue – or for that matter, ever again.

“We are forming a team of professionals that can handle all aspects of creating the series without further delays. Our plans to release a volume every three months may change to one a month now that we have a project coordinator on board as well,” she said.

The new edition has 36 full-color pages, including the front and back covers, and inside there is a two-page pull-out insert of the cover art drawn by Roy Young, who is best known for his work rendering and color work on the cult classic Lady Death. Tim Tyler, who worked on the first Vamptrix, returns as the artist for the interior art.

“I'm very happy with Volume II but being the perfectionist that I am, there are still changes I would like to see. I guess this is a ‘learn as you grow’ adventure and in the comic world the comic's evolution is great for collectors.”

Wane is also stoked about plans to adapt Vamptrix as an adult feature film with a tentative release date of October 2005. “We are going to take our time and go all out on this one. I'm amazed at how many artists are coming together to make this happen. We have a costume designer, set builder, musical composer, scriptwriters, and even people wanting to donate props just to be associated with the project. It is sure to be my biggest release ever.”

Vamptrix Volume II will be available at the San Diego Comic convention July 22-25, 2004. The comics will be at the Toyzz.com booth, where Wane will be signing autographs. Limited numbers are still available of Vamptrix Volume 1. Once sold out, they will never be reprinted.

Vamptrix Volume II will retail for $3.95 U.S. and $4.95 Canada. For distribution information and advertising rates in future editions contact [email protected].
