AFF Opposes New 'Meese Commission'

The Adult Freedom Foundation (AFF) on Tuesday stated its strong opposition to Sen. Sam Brownback's call for a new "investigation commission" that would scrutinize the adult entertainment industry.

“It’s just another politically motivated witch hunt,” said Paul Cambria, AFF general counsel, of Brownback’s call for a crackdown on “those who are distributing porn throughout America."

Brownback (R-Kan.) said Tuesday prosecutions “are not keeping up with the growth of pornography,” and called for a new “investigation commission” to attack the problem.

The senator said he wants a new commission “similar to the Meese Commission of the 1980s which examined the negative influence of porn.”

“If it’s anything like the last commission, put together by conservative politicians, those selected to this useless panel will be pre disposed to persecute the adult entertainment industry,” Cambria said.

Cambria continued, “It’s another attempt to deflect the truth of adult entertainment and create a distraction from political scandals that are harmful to their political parties.

“It’s about time politicians learned that the only commission needed is the market place of adults seeking adult entertainment produced by adults."

Brownback did not set a date for the new panel, but said he wants to move quickly “because there’s been a (porn) explosion since the Meese Commission in the 1980s.”
