Gina Lynn, Stormy, Kaylani Lei and Avy Scott were among the adult stars that drew huge crowds at the second annual Sex & Entertainment convention that was the biggest draw in the city over the weekend.
The American starlets were treated like national celebrities in Mexico City, where two of the major daily newspapers ran front-page stories on the girls and even showed topless photos. The girls signed autographs and posed for pictures for five days on behalf of Erotica Sex Shop, which purchased thousands of products for the show.
“Each day two of the girls would go and do a store signing in Mexico City for two hours and then they would go to the convention,” Mike Moz, who helped coordinate the U.S. contingent, said. “This is a national event. Every radio and TV station in Latin America was there. Porn is kind of intriguing to them.”
Some 100,000-plus people converged on Dalacio de Los Deportes, a venue comparable to Los Angeles’ Staples Center for the event that started on Feb. 10 and continued until Monday afternoon.
“It was an exhausting, crazy trip,” Lynn told AVN.com. “They treated us like mainstream stars. They knew that we were in town, so we would be walking down a regular street and people were yelling our names. We did a press conference where we actually sat there at a panel answering questions.”
Lynn said the question she fielded most often was, “What advice would you give a Mexican woman to spice up her sex life?”
“I said to buy our movies, and be open-minded. We told them that the videos were educational, and that you could learn new ways to please your partner,” Lynn said.
Stormy promoted Wicked Pictures product at the show.
“It’s been absolutely crazy. The guys that stand in line are almost fanatical,” Stormy told AVN.com. “They gathered around the van we were in and were shaking the van. I always have a line at AVN {in Vegas}, but down here they were chanting my name. They’re coming up to me and they’re crying. There were armed police with machine guns escorting us around. There was probably 1,000 people screaming my name.
“Definitely, we’re all exhausted. We took thousands pictures and did so many interviews. It was just a sea of people.”
Travis Knight, who manages Lynn and is also a performer/director, said he was surprised by the attention he received as the first male porn star to appear at the convention.
“It’s always about the girls, but they were even calling my name,” Knight said. “I did the press conference. It’s so mainstream the way they put you out there. Everybody was a star out there. I was just walking through the crowd and people were coming up to me. … I thought it was a pretty big success.”
