Earlier today the Adult Industry Assistance Fund sent four out of the five adult performers that were diagnosed as HIV-positive over the last month a check to help cover their immediate costs.
According to adult director Jim Enright, the fifth performer said he didn’t need the money. Darren James asked that his check be returned to the general fund.
“In talking to him, his spirits seemed very high,” Enright said. “He said that at this time he is being taken care of and would require no assistance from us, and would like for the monies that were allotted for him to be thrown back into the pot and distributed to other people.”
AIAF has raised approximately $20,000 so far. The needs of the five performers diagnosed with HIV over the last month were give priority, followed by the costs of the HIV tests were incurred by AIM.
A portion of the AIAF fund will be going to the AIM Health Foundation, to help cover the costs of the extra testing they have ordered for quarantined performers, which helped clear a large number of the performers. Enright estimates that AIM has run up bills in excess of $10,000 from the extra tests.
Rather than run just the PCR-DNA test, AIM ran a series of HIV tests for each person on the quarantine list, which gave them enough information to feel they could release people from the quarantine and lift the production moratorium.
Eventually, AIAF would like to be able to contribute the money to AIM to cover the costs of testing for all performers each month, and intends to solicit donations from all of the studios.
“We hope for some positive assistance from them. We want them to donate money to the fund on a regular basis,” Enright said. “I think the majority of them will receptive to this.”
ClubJenna plans on throwing a pool party at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas as a fundraiser for the AIAF this weekend.
Besides James, Lara Roxx, Jessica Dee, Miss Arroyo, and a transsexual performer named Jennifer have been diagnosed as HIV-positive over the last month. Jennifer's case was unrelated to Darren James.
