So much for the best-laid plans of mice and Netizens: What started as a night for happy birthday to adult Internet veterans Aly Drummond and Kimmy Kim has turned into a full-tilt Webmaster gathering aiming to swarm September 20.
They'll spread, in fact, between the Rainbow Bar and Grill and the Roxy, two of the most fabled nightspots on Sunset Boulevard, with wristbands allowing partygoers to move between the two spots. That's how fast this simple tandem birthday party has turned into a coming Webmaster blowout.
"It started as a small gathering of friends," said one organizer, Jim Holio of Holio.net. "That it has grown so quickly and gotten so huge is a testament to Aly and Kimmy's popularity, but also to the thriving adult Webmaster culture in Southern California."
Holio, Epoch, ePassporte, DreamTank, CyberAge, and CECash signed up to sponsor the Roxy side of the party, with FlyntDigital, HustlerContent, and VividCash taking care of the Rainbow side. Organizers said there were likely to be more co-hosts named before the big bash.
"We'd been looking for a good reason to get webmasters together for a while now," said FlyntDigital's Darren Davis. "When we heard KimmyKim and Aly had a birthday coming up, we didn't want to conflict with their fun. But bringing everyone together and really tearing the roof off the Strip made perfect sense."
The doors will open in each club at 8:30 p.m. and stay open until "the wee small hours of the morning," organizers said, with hospitality beginning a half hour earlier just a little way up the block at Hustler Hollywood. And the first 150 arriving there will receive special goodie bags sponsored by Hustler Video.
