2Much Celebrates Nine Years

Live video-chat system creator 2Much Internet Services is celebrating nine years in business and has launched a general call to celebrate at the company’s Montreal loft offices Friday, April 14.

“I see it more as celebrating the start of our 10th year in business,” says company founder Mark Prince. “We’ve been through really hard times and survived. The cliché has it right: It made us stronger.”

The event also will celebrate the sixth anniversary of the live video chat site on which 2Much built its current good fortunes, LiveCamNetwork.com.

“The company came first, obviously,” says Prince. “2Much used to put together video-chat sites for clients from scratch, but my frustration dealing with various video streaming providers and designers led me to create my own site, which acted as great publicity for the software.

“I wanted an adult site that people who invested in the high-speed hardware could use to show off with,” Prince says of LiveCamNetwork.com’s 2000 debut.

The idea was a gamble that paid off, because DSL barely had 16-percent market penetration at the time.

“We hit the DSL market only—no dial-up 28K or 56K,” says Prince. “But that was a great way to pre-qualify the traffic.”

Since then LiveCamNetwork has developed its MBase model-sharing system (“Sort of a plug-out feed,” Prince calls it)—a live, high-definition video stream that now powers more than 50 websites. LiveCamNetwork HD2, 2Much’s next-generation system, is due by summer.

2Much and LiveCamNetwork evolved along parallel lines, according to Prince, “so that the fun and atmosphere of running a small webcam site and studio has grown to affect the larger company as a whole. It’s the tightest, friendliest unit of people working together I’ve ever seen, and what we’ve achieved together is something I couldn’t be prouder of.”
