Needemand Launches New AV Solution, BorderAge

MONTPELLIER, France—Needemand announced the launch of BorderAge, which the company says is the only age assurance solution that does not require users to share personal data.

BorderAge, developed by Montpellier-based startup Needemand, requires no selfie, no ID, no email, etc. It uses AI technology based on medical research to analyze hand micromovements and determine a person’s age with 99% accuracy. After eight years of R&D, BorderAge is now being deployed across Europe, America, and Asia.

Needemand indicated BorderAge is based on robust medical research.

"Our nervous system evolves rapidly from birth to adulthood, altering the physiological characteristics of certain gestures," the company said. "BorderAge’s AI analyzes these micro-changes, invisible to the naked eye, but scientifically correlated with age."

The solution was validated in 2024 by ACCS (Age Check Certification Scheme), a leading authority in international certification, as 99% reliable, and was tested on a large scale by the Australian government in the spring of 2025.

BorderAge is also inclusive—free from ethnic bias, unlike facial analysis–based solutions, the company says.

It enables platforms to comply with the highest standards of government regulators (reliability, anonymity, ease of use, no risk of falsification, and no ethnic bias, etc.), while retaining their visitors/customers.
