CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Video-on-demand provider AEBN has launched AVStage, the first of several products created by the company specifically to cater to the Japanese consumer market.
AVStage has been in the works for months, according to a company spokesperson. Significant research and local coordination was required in order to operate under strict Japanese laws governing adult entertainment. Among the requirements was that U.S.-based AEBN also incorporate in Japan.
AVStage is a VOD distribution portal that offers mosaic content for the Japanese market. Censorship laws in Japan require certain body parts in lifelike images to be obscured, or overlaid with a mosaic pattern.
"This would be a huge step for any American-based company," AEBN's Michael Herman said. "It took a great deal of research, work, and patience to create a product that would appeal to a Japanese consumer base as well as conform to the various laws, but we did it and hope to use our new position to help non-Japanese content producers get their products into this market while respecting the culture and its laws."
