N.D. Legislature Adopts Resolution to Study Porn Effects

BISMARCK, N.D.—North Dakota lawmakers on Wednesday adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR) 4017, which directs the Legislative Management agency to conduct a study on whether pornography has a direct link to impacting the number of sex crimes in the state.

The study also aims to examine how pornography affects people's cognition.

The bill accuses the adult entertainment industry of creating media that objectifies women and children, and normalizes rape and abuse.

Sen. Tim Mathern, a Democrat, told KXNET that, “It’s to really get a better scientific understanding. And then from that, we can give much more direction to our schools and our healthcare and social service organizations.”

Despite there being no scientific evidence supporting the claim that pornography access is a public health crisis, the State Senate passed the resolution to the House, where it is now pending adoption.
