LOS ANGELES—The mother of incapacitated adult star Emily Willis has yet to put forth new evidence supporting claims that a rehabilitation center in Malibu was responsible for forcing Willis into a vegetative state in 2024 after she suffered a heart attack, MyNewsLA.com reports.
Attorneys representing the rehabilitation center, Summit Malibu, filed court papers last week with Judge Mark A. Young of the Santa Monica Superior Court stating that Willis' mother hasn't provided information or any more details that support her claim of elder/dependent abuse or anything construed as professional negligence.
It was first reported by the tabloid TMZ in February 2024 that Willis was hospitalized after what was believed at the time to be an overdose.
AVN reported that it was later revealed that Willis had suffered her heart attack at the Malibu rehab facility where she had admitted herself for ketamine addiction. Her mother sued the facility in December, alleging negligence in its care of her daughter.
“As a direct and proximate result of (Summit's) neglect, abandonment, recklessness, and negligence in failing to provide care and treatment for ...[Willis] ... she suffered irreversible brain damage and permanent physical and mental incapacity, pain, suffering, and emotional distress, among other damages,” the suit says.
In response, Summit's attorneys call the claims baseless due to what they characterize as a lack of evidence.
“It is undisputed that during her stay, [Willis] ... had refused to follow medical recommendations and take her medications,” Summit's attorneys said. “She refused to go to urgent care or the hospital voluntarily, despite being encouraged to do so by (Summit Malibu).”
Additionally, Willis was locked in a $5 million defamation lawsuit filed against fellow star Gianna Dior. AVN also reported that the judge in that case dismissed the case.
