Kirkus Reviews, the well-respected critical book review service, has given the new Dennis Hof prostitution bio-tome The Art Of The Pimp: One Man’s Search for Love, Sex and Money a major endorsement with a glowing review in its online edition today. Published by Regan Arts ($26.95, including a 32-page full-color comic book insert), The Art Of The Pimp details Bunny Ranch brothel owner Hof’s journey from a broken and broke childhood to becoming the wealthiest, best-known legal pimp in America.
Kirkus Reviews, founded in 1933, reviews over 7,000 book titles a year (in regular print and digital editions), and is known for giving its readers intensely critical and often biting “rip ‘em apart” reviews. As a result, Kirkus is considered by many to be the gold standard for predicting a book’s success, with a positive review sometimes propelling a book to international best-seller status. Kirkus publishes its reviews weeks before a book’s public release date, setting the tone for initial book sales, and later reviews.
The Kirkus review calls The Art Of The Pimp a “sex-drenched memoir” in which Hof “spills his guts about the joys of running a stable of women.” The review notes that “Hof comes across less as a dirty old man—he’s even a bit of romantic, as witnessed by his lifelong pursuit of love—and more a businessman, albeit one who is acutely aware of how and why his business works.”
The reviewer clearly enjoys the wacky cast of characters that appear throughout The Art Of The Pimp, including “most notably, porn legend Ron Jeremy, who infuses the proceedings with his trademark good-natured sleaze.” And the lively critique concludes, “Those seeking depictions of graphic sex and the ins and outs of prostitution will dig Hof's salacious memoir.”
The Art Of The Pimp will be available worldwide on March 17, 2015 at Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com, and wherever finer books are sold online and in retail outlets.
