Former Adult Performer Wins Election to Colombia's Congress

BOGOTÁ—Former adult film actress Amaranta Hank was elected to Colombia's Congress over the weekend as part of a victory for her political party, Pacto Histórico, a left-wing progressive party, news outlet El País reported. Pacto Histórico won the national election, gaining 25 seats in Congress to help form a coalition government.

Hank, whose real name is Deyci Alejandra Omaña, is now a senator working for sex workers' rights and sexual equality in the South American republic. Before she entered the adult industry, she worked as a journalist for primarily regional news outlets. Her work covered social and political issues from a left-wing perspective.

Over time, she managed to carve out a niche for herself as a voice for defending sexual freedom, feminism and sex workers. These positions shaped her public image.

She was active in the adult industry for only a short time between 2017 and 2020. Hank has starred in scenes and movies for Evil Angel, FakeHub and VNA Network.

Infobae asked Hank about her work to advocate for the rights of sex workers, including the fight against "a hostile and exclusionary environment." She said, "We are women who contribute to the country’s GDP and to the informal economy, and in addition to that, we generate employment. But above all, we support our families."

Hank added, "I'm not going to wait until the system considers me worthy to demand my place, our place. ... I don't want them to forgive my past or think I'm better now than before. I want them to recognize my power, the power of my voice, and the power of my colleagues.

“I raise my voice for myself and for every woman who, because of having engaged in paid sex work, has suffered exclusion, discrimination, censorship, or any type of violence,” she said.
