BRUSSELS—The European Union is set to release a white-label age verification app built on a digital wallet framework currently being developed at the direction of the EU's executive branch, the European Commission.
A press release from last week announcing commission investigations into platforms including Pornhub and XVideos briefly mentions the development of "a white label age-verification app, intended to bridge the gap until the EU Digital Wallet becomes available by the end of 2026.
"The app, based on the same technology as the EU Digital Wallet, can be implemented by the Member States and then used by online service providers to verify if the user is over 18 without revealing further identity information, thus fully respecting their privacy," adds the press release. "The app will be available by summer 2025."
Finland-based technology news outlet AfterDawn.com reported that the company developing the age verification app on behalf of the EU is called T-Scy, which won a commission tender for the age verification project.
According to a roadmap made available through the app's documentation portal, the first release of the white label solution is scheduled for July 25.
"A more detailed feature roadmap is planned to be published at a later stage," reads the documentation.
