LOS ANGELES—Aylo, the parent company of Pornhub.com, has not blocked access to its network of websites for users in the Ohio digital space, as AVN previously reported.
In a story published Monday, AVN reported that Ohio would be blocked due to the state's age verification law that targets pornography websites. Rather than saying the company would geo-blocked IP addresses from Ohio like it has in much of the United States, a spokesperson for Aylo confirmed that the company will comply with the law.
Mashable reports that Aylo interpreted the state's age verification law as not being applicable to a platform like Pornhub. The law specifies that age verification does not apply to platforms defined as "interactive computer services" under Section 230 of the federal Communications Decency Act of 1996.
"As a provider of an 'interactive computer service' as defined under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, it is our understanding that we are not subject to the obligations under section 1349.10 of the Ohio Revised Code regarding mandated age verification for the 'interactive computer services' we provide, such as Pornhub," the Aylo spokesperson told Mashable.
Section 230 is the federal law that immunizes platforms like Pornhub from the legal liability of third party users uploading content to their platform.
AVN regrets the error.
