Remember a couple of years ago when Republicans, dissatisfied with how the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) was standing up for the rights of oldsters, decided to form a competing organization, the "Association of Mature American Citizens" (AMAC)? The new organization basically claimed to be able to "save" Social Security by cutting future benefits and payouts for those who haven't yet reached retirement age while encouraging everyone to put what they would have paid in SS taxes into "retirement accounts"—because such saving plans have worked out so well already!
Well, one thing you won't find at AMAC are articles like the one that appeared in the August/September 2015 issue of the AARP magazine, "Sex After 50? Yes... oh, yes... ohhh, yes!" The piece had sexologist Pepper Schwartz answering readers' questions about how to "keep things hot in the bedroom"—and one of the questions that caught our eye was "Can you recommend good sex videos for older couples? My spouse and I would like to learn some new techniques, but a lot of the instructional websites we've seen advertised look flaky."
"You can get wonderful tips from videos—anbd they can be a turn-on, too," Schwartz replied. "Most of those from sinclairinstitute.com are narrated by respected sexologists; several are designed for older couples. Evesgarden.com also offers a variety of well-described videos."
As AVN has previously reported, Sinclair Institute often uses older (and a few younger) adult industry performers to demonstrate sex techniques, and its former president, Peggy Oettinger (she retired in 2012), was the recipient of Free Speech Coalition's "Woman of the Year" in 2009.
Sadly, Schwartz has no hardcore recommendations to make beyond those two, instead suggesting such "steamy movies" as An Affair to Remember and its remake, Love Affair, as well as the BDSM-themed Secretary, and The Lover, though for "edgier" fare, she suggests Henry and June, Wild Orchid, Sex and Lucia and The Story of O, all of which should make the over-50 set sit up and take notice.
Other Schwartz thoughts: Being "friends with benefits" is "quite normal" for oldsters; that "watching one's wife being made love to by another man is a relative common fantasy"; that travel can be an aphrodisiac; that "researchers are discovering that a person's sexual orientation is not carved in stone"; and that it's definitely not out of the question to ask that potential sex partners get tested for STDs before the first coupling.
