LAS VEGAS—Next Door Films, part of ASGmax, has announced its first full-length feature since the release of 2024’s award-winning cowboy film Breaking Frontiers.
Almost Real, written and directed by Jeremy Babcock, combines sci-fi and rom-com elements to tell the story of a guy and his synthetic sex-robot.
“Nico Coopa is in a dead-end relationship with Trevor Harris when he’s unexpectedly gifted a prototype sex robot (Ryder Owens) by his ‘mad scientist’ friend Derek Kage. Chaos ensues! Roommate Vincent Grey also joins the action alongside eventual ‘human’ love interest Grant Ducati. It’s a tale of love, connection, and sexual experimentation,” a plot synopsis said.
“This project is my tribute to 80’s era movies with an insane premise but a lot of heart,” explained Babcock. “I wanted to take a lighthearted look at a not too distant future where companionship becomes a choice between sex or real human connection.”
“This project brings together some of the best talent we have on ASGmax,” continued Babcock. “Not only did all of these guys bring their sexual A-game, but they absolutely nailed both the comedy and the heart of these scenes. This was easily the most I’ve ever laughed on a shoot, and I think that joy comes through in the final product.”
“In the Name of Science,” part one from Almost Real, airs February 14, Valentine’s Day, with the next three installments following every few weeks.
