The hype over Michael Lucas' Dangerous Liaisons is spilling over into the mainstream media. Yes, it's hit the gossip columns in the Big Apple, and when Page Six is writing about Lucas and his two-disc feature then you know things are going mainstream.
Without question Dangerous is Lucas' best work to date as director and performer, but he is also claiming that at $250,000 it is the most expensive gay adult video ever made, and that is something that I decided to research a bit.
As it turns out, Falcon's French Connections 1-2 in 1998 and Absolute Aqua/Arid their 1999 Australian two-parter — both directed by John Rutherford and video'd by Todd Montgomery — came in at more than $250,000 (the second one closer to $400,000, according to a good source). I'm not saying Lucas didn't spend a quarter-mil on his big-budget acting extravaganza, just that it's not quite the most expensive porn vid made.
The controversial part of the DVD is on Disc 2 where Lucas "interviews" his cast members and the mainstream stars who had cameos in the movie's big party scene. These celebs include Bruce Vilanch, Boy George, RuPaul, Graham Norton, Michael Musto, and The Lady Bunny.
What the interviews turn out to be are monologues from Lucas about how much the stars love him, plus digressions into occasional trash sessions against Chi Chi LaRue who Lucas has declared a rival, I suppose. Some of the celebs look like they're trapped in this session — Boy George looks like he's ready to walk off by the end of it. "I'm very good friends with Chi Chi," Boy says. RuPaul doesn't buy into the LaRue-bashing either.
At times, a rather happy Lucas says he's going to edit out the LaRue-bashing, or even worse, edit out anything anyone says that's good about LaRue. Obviously, it all stays in — much to Michael's credit — and he ends up personifying the meglomaniacal character he plays in the movie. Maybe that's the point all along...
Jason Crew dropped some exciting news: His older brother is getting out of prison soon and will be drawn into the porn biz with him. Although they won't have sex with each other, they will appear in sex scenes together and Jason promises that big bro is a genuine 13 inches! Of course, I'll have to see it to believe it.
The always smiling, "always ready to have a good time" star told me that the night before a big orgy scene he did for COLT he met with a fan he found on the Internet who sent photos of a big 11-incher that he wanted to check out in person. With a big grin Crew said, "It all checked out all right."
The vid that's destined to make Crew a superstar, however, is Kristofer Weston's mouthwatering LeatherBound for COLT's Buckshot line. The hung, slender guy is a virtual human dildo, passed around by Troy Punk and Pierro Sias.
Crew is also in Adonis Pictures' Running Wild by Michael Zen, along with Brad Benton, Anthony Shaw, and Nick Capra. That reminds me, Nick may have bitten off more than he could chew because he walked off the set of Zen's vampire movie for Adonis Pictures — he just got tired of waiting around and, perhaps, wearing the uncomfortable fangs. Anyway, the next day, Capra's roomie Rod Barry dove in to replace him.
Director Doug Jeffries just finished Captured for All Worlds Video with Steve Cannon who, reportedly, is an animal in this vid — in more ways than one. “Steve came to me with an idea for this film and I thought it was awesome,” Jeffries says. “He is a total pig and he loved every minute of the action." Jeffries and Cannon are sci-fi fans and in Captured Cannon plays a shape shifter who turns from wolf to human to seduce his "prey."
Meanwhile, the other big time star-turned-director, Chad Donovan, is getting raves for his Body Shots starring three Studio 2000 exclusives, Trevor Knight, Jason Harley, and Jake Havoc. Donovan knows how to direct and tell a story with high energy action that takes place at a bar.
Latin is the flavor of the day, and I'm hearing a lot from fans about the first-timers showing up in High Drive's Hooked on Homies. It has director Brady Mayo taking his camera through Latin America trying to get guys to "do each other" — and he convinces 13 of them to get it on. IMD is distributing.
Rex Chandler is back? No such luck. But this big blond superstar is being advertised on Falcon's pay-per-view site and it's nice to see he's not forgotten. The 6-9 monster of a man is pushing 40 (next year) and his most popular titles, Made for You, Manrammer, Deep in Hot Water, and Matt Sterling's Heat of the Night are online now.
Chandler, who's still in the Screen Actor's Guild and trying to make it as a mainstream actor, says that he never has been able to outlive his porn career and so a few years ago he allowed a cast be made of his "likeness" and admitted to me, "My cock looks larger because it's on me, but it's in proportion.
