BARCELONA—Private Media Group Inc. has signed an exclusive internet-protocol television (IPTV) distribution deal with U.S.-based Falcon Studios. The terms of the two-year deal empower Private to broadcast Falcon’s gay adult content via Private’s growing IPTV platform in Europe.
“Falcon’s distribution network is further enhanced by Private’s aggregation of our movies across its superb platform of European IPTV channels,” Falcon President Steve Johnson said. “Falcon’s high-quality content will allow Private to better serve the affluent gay market throughout Europe.”
According to IPTV forecasts made by Multimedia Research Group Inc. in 2008, the number of global IPTV subscribers is estimated to grow from 20.4 million in 2008 to 89.1 million in 2012, a compound annual growth rate of 45 percent. Europe continues to be the biggest market for IPTV, with France significantly leading the growth projections through its principal telecommunications companies. The number of IPTV subscribers in Europe is forecast to grow from approximately 10.5 million in 2008 to 36.4 million in 2012.
All of that is good news for growth plans that Private Vice President of Sales Tim Clausen described as “aggressive.”
“Following our recent deal with [adult studio] Bluebird Films, this new deal with Falcon Studios consolidates our business strategy of being the key aggregator of the world’s best adult brands,” Clausen said. “Currently Private’s IPTV distribution covers 24 countries in Europe. As the leading supplier of adult content with more than 75 percent coverage of the European IPTV market and 100 percent penetration in the French and German IPTV markets, we expect to see significant growth in the distribution of third-party content via our network.
“Our recent acquisition of [gay video-on-demand provider] Sureflix further cements Private’s position as the world’s leading distributor of premium adult content across all digital platforms,” Clausen added. “No other company equals our strong positioning and ability to distribute content across such a broad array of channels.”
