A serious picture posing as a porn vid. Writer/director David Stanley starts by introducing us to Melissa Hill and Tyce Buné in their teen years (Stanley wisely keeps the camera far away from their awkward adolescent gropings, but can't stop Hill's involuntary chuckle when Buné says he's eighteen) then jump-cuts to eight years later with them in bed, married, in a gleeful cowgirl fuck. The sex scene is playful and there is good rapport between them, but soon after we realize that all is not well.
Buné's a writer working in porn - just for the moment, until he catches a break in mainstream - and Hill works in an office. Buné fantasizes about old friend Stephanie Swift; Hill flirts and dry-humps with co-worker Steve Drake. As the story develops, things get complicated and ugly.
The small details in Turn About are excellent: the classic bad video Requiem for a Pizza Guy made from Buné's script; Ron Jeremy doing his stand-up comedy act, only acknowledged by Swift saying "Why does that guy look familiar?"; the salacious mutual-masturbatory late-night phone call a drunken Hill makes to Drake, capped by a close-up of Drake's wife, a tear trickling down her cheek betraying that she wasn't sleeping after all; the two-location two-couple sex scene where both couples mirror each other's actions. There are six sex scenes, one a g/g and one the two-couple scene, plus the phone-sex scene; but the sex here serves the characters and the plot, not the other way around.
Pre-noms: Hill for Best Actress - Video; Buné for Best Actor - Video; Swift for Best Supporting Actress - Video; and Stanley for Best Screenplay - Video and Best Director - Video.
Stock in the couples section, but watch it yourself before you recommend it.
