Cash Markman takes the premise of the classic '60s TV show The Prisoner and drops it into the porn world.
Mike Horner, aggravated by the bureaucracy of a '90s porn set (director Steve Austin hands him a six-inch stack of paperwork, saying "Fill in the blank parts" and assuring him that he'll get a check for today's work - minus deductions - in a couple of weeks), just snaps. Stomps into an office, throws down a resignation, and yells, in pantomime, at an indifferent cigarette-smoking woman and stomps out again. Goes home, starts to pack a suitcase, and pshhhht there's some smoke coming in the keyhole...
...and he wakes up in The Colony, where people no longer in the porn industry wind up after they disappear. No longer "Mike Horner," or "Drake," the character he played in his last video, he is now Number Sixty-Nine. He goes into a video store, and behind the corner is Tori Welles. She denies it: She's Number Ninety-One. Sharon Mitchell is there. So is Marc Wallice. Randy Spears is too: He comes back to The Colony when he's out of the adult business. Number Sixty-Nine confronts Number Three (Frank Bukkwyd) with some thought-provoking what-is-reality questions - if not answers - and finally makes his escape from The Colony. Or does he?
Witty dialogue ("I fast-forward through the dialogue and get right to the sex - as, I suppose, someone is doing right now with us.") and in-jokes ("You're Number Three: Who are Number One and Number Two?" "Most people say VCA is number one, and Vivid is number two.") mixes with some reality-bending sex scenes for a thought-provoking whole.
Pre-noms to Markman for script and Mike Horner for acting.
On a personal note, I'm not worried about falling victim to this fate: I'm going to wake up one morning in a different Colony entirely, surrounded by Peter Tomarken, Jim Peck and Holly Hallstrom. Maybe Dian Parkinson if I'm lucky.
Be seeing you.
